OECD Data

Read the OECD's official statistics straight from its own data API: about 1,500 datasets on GDP, inflation, jobs, trade, interest rates, education, health, taxes and more for its 38 member countries and major partner economies, including the Economic Outlook's projections.

Steps a workflow can run in OECD Data.

  • Search datasetsFind OECD datasets by words in their name, by topic (such as Economy > Prices or Health > Health expenditure), or both. Each comes with the AGENCY,ID to pass to the other steps, the OECD directorate that publishes it, its topics and a link to it in the OECD Data Explorer. No API key required.
  • Get a dataset's structureSee what an OECD dataset holds and how to ask for it: its description and topics, how many values it has and the years they span, and its dimensions in key order, each with the values that hold data, plus the selection the Data Explorer opens it with. Run it before 'Get data' to know what to put in the Filters.
  • List a dimension's valuesList every code one dimension of an OECD dataset takes, such as its countries or its measures, with what each means. By default only the values the dataset holds data for; search by words to find one in a long list.
  • Check data availabilityFind out what a selection of an OECD dataset holds without downloading it: how many values, the first and last dates, the latest period, and which values of each dimension still have data. Use it to check that a new month or quarter has been published before fetching it, or to see which countries a measure covers.
  • Get dataGet figures from any OECD dataset. Choose the dataset, pick values in the Filters (several countries at once if you like) and a period or the latest few values. Comes back as rows to loop over or add to a spreadsheet, each with its period, value, unit and every dimension's code and label, and as series with their latest value. A pasted Data Explorer link brings its selection with it. Every result carries a citation.
  • Get leading indicatorGet the OECD's monthly composite leading indicator (CLI) for a country, which signals turning points in the economy about four to eight months before they show in GDP (100 is its long-term average), or its business or consumer confidence index. Returns the latest value, the change on the month before and the recent history.
  • Get inflationGet consumer price inflation for a country from the OECD: annual inflation, the change on the previous period, or the price index itself, for all items or core (excluding food and energy), food, energy, goods or services. Monthly, quarterly or annual. Returns the latest figure, the change on the period before and the recent history.
  • Get unemployment rateGet the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for a country from the OECD's labour force statistics: everyone, women or men, aged 15 and over, 15 to 24 or 25 and over, monthly, quarterly or annual. Returns the latest rate, the change on the period before and the recent history.
  • Get GDP growthGet real GDP growth for a country from the OECD's quarterly national accounts, seasonally adjusted: growth on the previous quarter (or year), or on the same quarter a year earlier. Returns the latest figure, the change on the period before and the recent history.
  • Get financial market indicatorGet a country's long-term (government bond) or short-term interest rate, overnight interbank rate, share price index, exchange rate against the US dollar or real effective exchange rate from the OECD's financial market statistics. Returns the latest figure, the change on the period before and the recent history.
  • Get Economic Outlook projectionGet the latest OECD Economic Outlook's figures for a country, which run one to two years ahead: real GDP growth, headline or core inflation, the unemployment rate, the government budget balance or debt, the current account, the output gap or interest rates. The most recent periods are the OECD's projections. Returns the furthest figure, the one before it and the recent history.
