eCFR
Read and search the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations, the continuously updated text of every U.S. federal regulation: search the rules in effect now or on a past date, read any section or part, look up a citation, see which agency writes what, and track what changed, when and how.

Steps a workflow can run in eCFR.
- List titlesList the 50 titles of the Code of Federal Regulations, such as Title 40 Protection of Environment, with the date each was last amended and the date the eCFR is up to date to. Narrow it to titles amended recently.
- List agenciesList the federal agencies that write regulations, each with the titles and chapters of the CFR it is responsible for and links to them. Departments come first, followed by their sub-agencies.
- Get agencyGet one agency: its full name and abbreviation, the department it belongs to, its sub-agencies, and every part of the CFR it writes, with each title's name and a link.
- Search regulationsSearch the full text of the federal regulations in effect now, or on a past date, by words, title, part, agency and when the text last changed. Each match comes with its citation, heading, the text around the match and a link.
- Count search resultsCount the sections that match a search and break the count down by title, by part, or by the date the text took effect, to see where a topic is regulated and how recently.
- Look up a citationFind what a CFR citation points to, written any common way (40 CFR 52.21, 40 C.F.R. § 52.21, 29 CFR 1910): its heading, the agency, part and subpart it sits in, and a link.
- Get table of contentsList what a title contains (its chapters, subchapters and parts), or, given a part, its subparts, sections and appendices, each with its heading, citation and link. Works for any date since 2017.
- Get section textGet the full text of a section or appendix as it read on any date since 2017 (today's by default), as plain paragraphs with tables and images kept, plus its heading, source note, where it sits and a link.
- Get part textGet the full text of a part, or one subpart of it, as it read on any date since 2017: every section and appendix with its heading, text and link, plus the authority and source notes.
- Get section historyList every version of a section or appendix since 2017, newest first: when each took effect, when it was published, whether the change was substantive or editorial, and a link to that version.
- List changes to a titleList every section of a title the eCFR published a change to in a date range, newest first, optionally in one part or only substantive changes. Run it on a schedule to hear about new rules in the areas you follow.
- Compare section versionsCompare a section's text on two dates and list what changed, paragraph by paragraph: what was added, removed or rewritten, with links to both versions.
- List correctionsList errors in the eCFR text that the Office of the Federal Register has corrected, most recent first: what was wrong, which sections, when the error appeared and when it was fixed.
