How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Every Monday this workflow reads the newest posts in the subreddits you name, asks a model to group the frustrations and unmet needs that keep coming back into themes, and emails you the ones that stand up. It is looking for problems nobody has solved yet - not for mentions of you - so it reports a theme whether or not your product is ever named.
A theme only reaches you if real posts back it. The model is given the posts with a label on each and must cite those labels; every label it returns is checked back against the posts that were actually read, and any it did not get from that list is thrown away and counted in the footer. What you receive is built from the stored posts themselves, so each theme carries the subreddit, the post title and a direct link to the thread. The digest also says how many posts sit behind each theme, because three people raising something and thirty raising it are different findings. Anything with fewer than your minimum is left out rather than padded, and a week where nothing recurs is reported as exactly that.
Reddit only returns a post's title, not its body, so themes are read off titles and the links are there for you to go deeper. The workflow reads only: it never posts or comments on your behalf. Each run reads at most 5 subreddits and up to 50 posts from each, and reports at most 10 themes; all four numbers are steps you can change, and the email repeats the caps it ran under. Every reported theme is also appended to your Google Sheet, so the same theme reappearing week after week is visible as history. Nothing in the sheet is ever overwritten.
Before the first run, fill in the steps at the top: the subreddits (comma separated), a line describing your market, the address for the digest, and the spreadsheet link and tab for the log. Give that tab these six columns in row 1, in this order: Date, Theme, Posts behind it, What they want, Subreddits read, Example links.
Connections needed: Reddit (reading the subreddits), OpenAI (grouping the posts), Google Sheets (the history) and Gmail (the digest).
