How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Turns one podcast episode into something you can read in two minutes and act on. You paste the episode's transcript or its show notes, and the workflow writes a summary of what the episode actually argued, looks up short background on the people, organisations and topics it mentions, and emails the two together as a single digest.
The background is the part that saves the real time. Every name the episode leans on is looked up in Wikipedia and the encyclopaedia's own opening paragraph is quoted under it with a link, so nothing in that section is the model's invention. A name with no entry - a private company, a person too obscure to be listed, a misheard spelling - is quietly left out rather than shown as a gap, and if the lookups fail altogether the digest still goes out with the summary alone.
Set it up by pasting the text into the 'episodeNotes' step, naming the episode in 'episodeTitle' and putting your address in 'recipientEmail'. Two settings are worth knowing about: 'maxTranscriptCharacters' caps how much of a long transcript is sent to the model, which is what keeps a three-hour episode from costing three hours' worth of tokens, and 'maxBackgroundLookups' caps how many names one run looks up.
It needs the text of the episode, not the audio: Lodol has no step that transcribes a recording, so copy the transcript or the show notes from wherever the podcast publishes them. Show notes on their own work fine - the summary is simply shorter.
