How it works

Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.

Every Monday morning this workflow reads your new-hire roster, finds everyone whose start date falls in the next seven days, sends each of them a short welcome email, and posts a note to your team channel so nobody arrives to a room that was not expecting them.

The welcome email is written from the roster, not by a model. It goes to a real person in their first week and says only what the sheet actually knows - their name, role and start date - so there is nothing to review before it sends and nothing that can be got confidently wrong.

Anyone whose start date has already passed is skipped, so nobody is welcomed twice, and anyone further out is picked up by a later Monday. A hire with no email address is still announced to the team - missing contact details should not make somebody invisible to the people about to receive them. A row with a missing or unreadable start date is reported rather than skipped quietly: a new starter nobody was told about is exactly the failure this is meant to prevent.

The roster is expected to have Name, Role, Email and 'Start date' columns, with dates written as YYYY-MM-DD. To set it up, paste the roster URL and choose a Slack channel.
