How it works

Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.

Before you buy from, apply to, or hand your details to a website you do not know, this workflow gathers what is publicly on record about it and writes each thing it found into your spreadsheet as its own row, next to the source it came from.

It collects five signals:

- The domain registration record, from the public registry for the domain's ending: when the domain was registered, through which registrar, and the registrant as published. - The site's history in the Internet Archive: when the address was first captured and how many captures the archive holds. - What the site's own page states: the postal address, phone number, contact email and company details it publishes, quoted from the page. - Which of the top search results for the domain sit on other domains. A page on the site itself is the site describing itself, not corroboration by anyone else. - What a search for the site's reviews returns.

It reports and it does not conclude. Every row names its source so you can open it and check for yourself. Where something was not found the row says that nothing was found, rather than treating an absence as a finding: a domain with no reviews is a domain with no reviews. The workflow does not decide whether a business is worth dealing with, and it is no substitute for your own judgement or for asking the business directly.

It reads only what any visitor can see - public registries, public search results, the archive, and the site's own page fetched once. It does not scan, probe or test anything, and it sends nothing to the site beyond that single page request.

Set it up by pasting the address of the site into the 'siteUrl' step, the link to your Google Sheet into 'spreadsheetUrl', and the name of an existing tab into 'tabName'. Create that tab first with these five headings, in this order: Checked on, Site, Signal, What was found, Source. Rows are appended, so earlier reports are kept and you can run it again later to see what has changed.

The details on the site's own page are read with AI, which is asked to quote the page and nothing else. Its answer is checked before it is written, and if it goes beyond quoting, the row says so instead of passing the answer on.
