How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Every Monday morning this workflow reads your metrics spreadsheet and emails you a short briefing: what changed since last week, which way, and by how much. The numbers it was written from are included underneath, so nothing in the summary has to be taken on trust.
It is instructed not to explain why anything moved. A spreadsheet cannot tell you that, and a plausible invented cause in a briefing you act on is worse than no explanation at all. It is also told not to estimate, annualise or project, and to call a measure incomplete rather than treating a blank cell as a zero.
If the sheet is empty it emails to say so. An empty metrics sheet usually means something upstream stopped running, and the person who needs to know that is the one expecting this email. If the summary cannot be written the numbers are sent on their own - the numbers are the briefing and the commentary is what you can afford to lose.
The metrics tab is expected to have Measure, 'This week' and 'Last week' columns. To set it up, paste the spreadsheet URL and the address to send to.
