How it works

Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.

Every Monday at 10:00 this workflow asks Perplexity what actually happened in your industry over the past seven days, hands that raw news to Claude along with a description of your business, and emails you back a briefing where every line answers 'so what for us'. Funding rounds, launches, pricing moves, regulation, hires and outages that bear on you are written up with why they matter and what to do about it; everything else is dropped, and a quiet week produces a short briefing rather than a padded one.

Before the first run, edit the three settings at the top of the workflow: - industry: the market to watch, written the way you would describe it to a new hire. The more specific it is, the less noise Perplexity brings back. - businessContext: what you sell, who buys it, how you win and lose, and what you are working on this year. This is the setting that turns a news summary into a briefing, so it is worth a few sentences. - recipientEmail: where the briefing goes. It ships blank and the run stops with a message until you fill it in.

Claude writes the briefing in Markdown and the steps after it convert that to clean, readable email text: links become 'text (url)', bold markers and heading markers are stripped, bullets become indented dots, and each section is separated by a rule. Note that Lodol's Gmail step sends plain text, not HTML, so the briefing is formatted for a plain-text inbox rather than styled with HTML tags; sending real HTML would show the raw tags to the reader.

Connections needed: Perplexity (the weekly search), Anthropic (the briefing) and Gmail (delivery). One Perplexity call and one Claude call per run, so the whole thing costs a few cents a week. If either comes back with nothing, the run stops with an error rather than emailing a briefing that reads like a quiet week. To send it to a whole leadership team, put the addresses in recipientEmail separated by commas; to change the day or time, edit the trigger.
