Gmail alerts in Slack

Whenever Gmail delivers a new email, this workflow checks it against your filters and posts the ones that matter into a Slack channel — subject, sender, who it mentions and the first part of the message, with a link that opens the thread in Gmail. Nothing else is posted, so the channel stays worth reading.

Edit the settings at the top before the first run: - slackChannelId — the channel to post into. This is the only setting that has to be filled in. - subjectKeywords — alert when the subject contains any of these. It ships watching for 'urgent', 'outage', 'escalation' and 'past due'. - senderMatches — alert only for these senders. A part of an address is enough, so '@acme.com' covers everyone at Acme. - contentKeywords — alert when any of these appears in the subject or anywhere in the body. - ignoreKeywords — never alert when the subject or sender contains one of these. Auto-replies and newsletters are excluded out of the box. - requiredLabel — alert only for emails carrying this Gmail label, which lets an existing Gmail filter decide what is worth an alert. Leave it empty to skip the check (it costs one extra Gmail call per email). - slackMention — put '<!here>' or '<@U123ABC>' here to ping the channel or a person on every alert. - gmailAccountIndex — which signed-in Google account the 'Open in Gmail' link should use. 0 is the first one.

Every filter you fill in has to match; every filter you leave empty is ignored. Matching is case-insensitive and looks for your text anywhere in the field, so short words match inside longer ones ('down' is in 'download') — prefer distinctive phrases. You can also narrow at the source by setting the 'From' field on the trigger step itself: the workflow then only wakes for that address or domain.

Connections needed: Gmail (the trigger, and the label check if you use one) and Slack (delivery). The workflow runs once per new email; an email that matches nothing ends the run quietly and says why in the run output.
