How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Point this at the spreadsheet your signups or enquiries land in and it keeps Google Contacts in step with it, once a day. Every row is matched against your address book by email address: somebody new is added as a contact, and somebody already there is left in place rather than entered a second time.
Your tab needs a header row with these exact column names: 'First Name', 'Last Name', 'Email' and 'Phone'. The names are fixed - rename the columns in your sheet to match rather than the other way round. 'Last Name' and 'Phone' may be empty.
Nothing already on a contact is ever overwritten. When someone is matched, the workflow only fills in what is blank - a missing phone number, or a missing name - and if your sheet has a different phone number from the one on the card it says so in the summary and changes nothing. A row with no first name, or with nothing usable in the 'Email' column, is skipped and named at the end: without an email there is no safe way to tell that person apart from someone already in your contacts, and guessing risks merging two different people. No contact is ever deleted.
Two things worth knowing. Company names are not stored, because a Google contact here holds a name, an email address and a phone number and nothing else. And matching looks at the first 1000 contacts in your address book, so a larger one may produce the occasional duplicate rather than a match.
Re-running is safe: a second run over an unchanged sheet writes nothing at all. Fill in the 'signupSheetUrl' and 'signupTabName' steps to set it up.
