How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Every Monday morning this pulls last week's search performance for your site and appends it to a Google Sheet, one row per query, so the trend builds up week after week without anyone opening a console.
It reads the seven full days ending three days before the run, because search consoles finalise a day's figures on a lag and the most recent days are still moving. Each row records the week it covers, the query, clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, written as real numbers and dates so you can chart any column straight from the sheet.
The columns are fixed and named by the workflow - Week start, Week end, Query, Clicks, Impressions, CTR, Average position - so it only ever writes the figures it knows how to read. The first run creates the tab and writes that header; every run after that only appends, so the history is never overwritten and no week is lost.
To set it up, fill in the 'searchDataUrl' step with your search analytics endpoint, the 'accessToken' step with a token for it, and the 'spreadsheetUrl' step with the link to the sheet. 'sheetTab' and 'maxQueries' already have sensible defaults.
A week with no data stops cleanly and leaves the sheet alone, and a single result that comes back without query text is logged and skipped rather than ending the run.
Start from a workflow that already works.
