How it works
Everything the template sets up, and what to fill in before the first run.
Most competitor tracking starts with a list you already have. This one starts a step earlier: you describe what your company sells, and it goes and finds who is selling something similar.
Every 30 days it searches a company index for businesses offering a competing product, then reads each one's own website and writes a short profile - what they sell, who they target, how they position themselves, and the claims they make. Each profile becomes one page in a Notion database you own and can keep adding to.
The profiles are deliberately narrow. Each one is written only from the text of that company's own page, and a company whose page comes back too thin to describe is skipped rather than filled in from memory - an invented pricing tier or customer count is worse than no profile at all. Anything the site does not say is marked 'Not stated on their site', and every page links the source it was written from.
It matches on the page title - the company's name, compared case-insensitively - so a company already in the database is never given a second page, and a re-run only adds new entrants. Your own company is left out by name.
Before the first run, fill in 'businessDescription', 'yourCompanyName' and 'notionDatabaseId', and share that database with your Notion connection. If your database's title column is not called 'Name', put its name in 'titleProperty'. 'maxCompetitors' caps how many profiles one run writes; it ships at 6.
Only the title column is written - everything else goes in the page body - so this works with a Notion database of any shape without needing columns set up first.
Connections needed: Exa (the search), Anthropic (writing each profile) and Notion (the database). One search plus one model call per competitor examined. A failure on one company is reported in the run output and does not stop the others.
